In his time Thoreau was a bit of an innovator, taking to the woods to find meaning, peace and a sense of purpose. Today we know that his instinctual knowledge that nature has the power to heal was spot on.

Research shows that being in a natural environment does amazing things to our bodies and minds. For example, experts have discovered that after a short walk in a park our blood pressure can go down, and our sense of focus can increase.
